The Libertarian Activist Network is a student-run, privately funded campus group that seeks to spread the ideals of liberty and self-ownership. The Libertarian Activist Network, otherwise known as L.A.N., was founded by President Neal Conner and Vice-President Alexander Villacampa in an effort to counter the present on-campus Democratic and Republican biases and introduce a more principled view of politics. The aim of the Libertarian Activist Network is to work closely with libertarian groups throughout the county, the state, and the nation in order to bring a comprehensive pro-freedom message to the University of Florida campus. L.A.N. works closely with single-issue student groups on campus in order to organise civil demonstrations on current events in favour of pro-liberty stances.
Libertarianism is a philosophy based on the non-aggression axiom which states that the initiation of physical force or the threat of such upon persons or their property is counter to the right of self-ownership. Libertarians believe that individuals should be able to participate in any action as long as it does not infringe upon the liberties of others. In addition, libertarians believe that trade should not be hindered by any third party. The value of a trade can only be evaluated by the parties in question and never by parties outside the transaction. Libertarians hold that acts inflicted by individuals upon their beings, such as consuming drugs, is reserved to themselves and that third parties, such as the State, should not restrict the right of self-ownership. The Libertarian Party of the United States applies the non-aggression axiom to their stances and the Libertarian Party’s agenda has its foundations in the non-aggression axiom. The Libertarian Party’s pledge states,
“I certify that I do not believe in or advocate the initiation of force as a means of achieving political or social goals."
